My year in WorldTeach
There's the experience of visiting another country. And then there's the experience of living there, as a working part of the community.
There's the experience of having a job and getting a paycheck. And then there's the experience of having a job and getting paid in the form of satisfaction and frustration, adversity and success in the face of adversity.
Working as an international volunteer is not for everyone. But it's one of the best things I ever did.
In 1991, I was a volunteer English teacher at Colegio Técnico Profesional Carlos Manuel Vicente Castro, the public high school in Golfito, Costa Rica, as part of the WorldTeach program. Visit the WorldTeach website to learn more about this non-profit organization's programs in more than a dozen countries around the world.
